Resources at CHS include material relating to the history of California and the West from the early explorations to the present time. Historical texts, manuscripts, and several special collections found nowhere else in the country, include:
• More than 50,000 volumes of books and pamphlets
• 4,000 manuscript collections, including diaries, family papers, records of 19th century businesses and organizations
• Over 500,000 photographic images - see Photography [link to next page]
• Extensive collections of printed ephemera, posters, broadsides, periodicals, maps, and newspapers
• The Kemble Collection, one of the most extensive collections in the U.S. pertaining to the history of printing and publishing in North America.
The library is open to the public from noon to 5:00 pm, Wednesday through Friday.
